US YouTuber Drew Binsky has found himself stranded in Pakistan amid escalating tensions with India. This comes months after Binsky famously criticised his flight to India, describing it as “the worst business class” experience of his life. Now, the popular vlogger is documenting a completely different side of South Asia as he navigates being stuck in Pakistan due to closed airspace and rising tensions.
Binsky, who has a significant following with over five million subscribers on YouTube and 1.2 million followers on Instagram, shared an update on his situation on Thursday. He revealed that all airports in Pakistan were closed on Wednesday night, leaving him unable to travel.
In his Instagram post, he assured his followers that he was safe, saying, “I’m stuck in Pakistan right now due to the conflict with India, and all airports are closed. Thanks for all your thoughts and messages. I’m doing okay.”
“Make peace, not war, Pakistan x India,” he wrote.
The closure of Pakistan’s major airports in Lahore and Islamabad came amid increasing tensions between the two nations, though Karachi airport remains operational. Binsky plans to stay in northern Pakistan, near Kashmir, exploring the area, until he can leave.
In his video, he provided a first-hand account of the situation, “It’s pretty crazy to be here right now… everyone’s walking, holding Pakistan flags and chanting,” he said, as he filmed a protest.
“I’m actually up here in the north, near Kashmir, which is the tense region,” he said in the video. “It’s pretty crazy to be here right now. I’ve been receiving thousands of text messages and calls from you guys from reaching out. Thank you so much. I just want to let you know that I am safe. It’s a pretty crazy feeling to be stuck in a country where all the borders are closed,” he added.
Despite the tense situation, Binsky described the local population as largely unaffected, continuing their daily lives as usual. “People here are pretty unbothered by what’s going on. Shops are open… just another day in the life here,” he said, adding that the media’s portrayal of the situation might seem worse than it actually is.
Binsky’s original plan was to fly back to the United States from Islamabad this weekend, but with airspace closed, he is now considering alternative travel options, including a road trip to Kabul to catch a flight home from Afghanistan.
This isn’t Binsky’s first time in the spotlight for his travels to South Asia.
Last December, he visited India and documented his experience, describing his flight from London to Amritsar as “the worst business class” flight of his life. He claimed that his seat was broken and that he had to eat his meal on a pillow covered in human hair.
Following India’s Operation Sindoor on May 7, and subsequent military action along the LoC, Pakistan has closed several northern airways within the Lahore Flight Information Region (FIR) until May 10.
While major airports like Lahore (OPLA) and Islamabad (OPIS) have resumed operations, certain airways remain unavailable. The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has advised airlines to avoid these restricted airways, leading many to reroute flights over the Gulf of Oman and the UAE. India has closed approximately 25 airports, primarily in the northern regions, including Amritsar (VIAR), Srinagar (VISR), and Chandigarh (VICG), until May 10.
