In today’s world, where we often hear stories related to toxic working environments and individuals leaving jobs due to low salaries, a supermarket chain owner, based in China, recently grabbed the internet’s attention after he distributed over Rs 10 crore profits from gold futures investments among his 2,040 employees. P.S.: These also include cooks and cleaners. Yes! Bosses like these do exist in real life.
According to the South China Morning Post, Liu Mingjun, a singer turned entrepreneur, is the founder of the Ronghe 1+1 Fresh Supermarket chain in Shanxi province, northern China. Since its beginning in 2021, the company has expanded to 33 locations in Shanxi and has lately grown into nearby Henan province. It currently has 2,040 employees.
In a recent interview with Jiupai News, Liu shared that he distributed a total of 9.13 million yuan (approximately Rs 10 Crore) in gains from a one-year investment in gold futures among his entire staff. “I have expertise in futures trading and have been doing that for 20 years, but this is the first time I have made this much,” he said.
One of his shop managers confirmed the news, stating that every employee, including those in basic duties such as cooking and cleaning, received a part of the bonus. The amount varied based on how long they had worked for the company.
Those with over two years of service received 10,000 yuan (about INR 1.15 lakh), while those with one to two years of tenure earned 2,000 yuan (approx. INR 23,000) and two days of paid leave. Staff who joined less than a year ago received 1,000 yuan (approximately INR 11,500) and equal leave.
As per South China Morning Post, videos of bundles of cash placed on a table as staff lined up to get their share have surfaced on Chinese Social Media apps.
Furthermore, Liu shared that the cash distribution was not intended to motivate people to work more but rather to fulfil a long-held personal vision.
“If I ever get wealthy, I will share it with everyone. It comes from the heart and is not an empty promise. I will do my best to make sure my employees feel happy,” Liu stated. He continued. “This profit sharing will surely not be the last time.”
Previously, a Chinese restaurant owner gained a lot of praise for distributing over Rs 64 Lakhs in profits among his employees.
